AAU USA International Collegiate Summer Team lands Jimmie Gentry (Albright College)

Press Release | January 20, 2018

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.—Albright College (Pa.) baseball’s Jimmie Gentry has committed to play for the AAU USA International Collegiate Team in summer 2018’s international series vs Ireland and Scotland.

This will be the stud middle infielder’s third summer playing in Europe with manager Mike Graham and head coach Chris Cummings. His return was high on their wish list. The former NABF All-American’s commitment gives the AAU USA International Collegiate Team another top prospect for a stellar recruiting class.

Ireland will host the AAU USA International Collegiate Team as part of the Ireland International Baseball Festival at Ashbourne International Baseball Centre, County Meath, July 10-15. Opponents include the Ireland National Team, Irish Baseball League All-Star Team, USA Military Blue Devils, and non-tournament matchups to be announced later.

Scotland will host the AAU USA International Collegiate Team for an international friendly series at Edinburgh and Glasgow July 5-10. Opponents in Scotland include the Scotland National Team and the Edinburgh (Giants, Diamond Devils, Cannons) and Glasgow (Galaxy, Comets) clubs of the Scotland National Baseball League.

Gentry played summers 2017 and 2016 with coaches Cummings and Graham for the Sant Boi Barcelona Falcons (Spain) in the Collegiate Baseball League Europe (CBLE) in Great Britain, France, Spain, Netherlands, and Belgium.

The Falcons won back to back CBLE regular season championships playing in the league affiliated with the NORTHWOODS LEAGUE, one of America’s premier summer collegiate baseball leagues comprising teams of top college players from the Midwestern United States and Canada.

As a CBLE All-Star selection, Gentry played against the French National Team. He received the 2017 True Grit Award given by the coaching staff to a team member that best demonstrates the qualities of courage, determination and perseverance.

For the season, Gentry slashed .378/.465/.459 (.925) on 14 hits in 37 at bats. Of that total, he had 3 extra base hits, all doubles, and scored 7 times. In the field, he finished with a .930 fielding percentage and 3.15 range factor.

In two years at Barcelona, he hit a combined .381/.453/.452 (.905) with 6 doubles, 9 RBIs, and 17 runs scored. He ranks as one of the all-time top hitters (#21) in the league’s entire history overall and 6th for the Falcons club.

Several of Gentry’s 2017 teammates—Connor Graham (Anne Arundel CC, Md.), Mac McGrath (Shenandoah University, Va.), Daniel Keating (Wellington HS, Fla.), and CJ Cummings (University of Mary Washington, Va.)—also have committed to the AAU USA International Collegiate Team.

"Getting offered to represent AAU USA Baseball in international collegiate summer baseball and return to Europe again is extremely exciting," Gentry said. “I'm comfortable and like playing with the coaching staff and the players they recruit and how things are run. It fits my character and is the best decision for me."
"This is a great day for AAU USA International Collegiate Baseball," Graham said. “Jimmie is a great player who has been battle tested at the international level.”

Gentry plays for the Albright College Lions in the NCAA Division III Middle Atlantic Conference under Coach Jeff Feiler. As a freshman he hit .286 for the Lions with 14 runs and 9 RBI’s.
In AAU Baseball, Gentry played MI/3B as a member of the Maryland RBI 19U advanced skills development team that won a record fourth Maryland AAU State Championship in 2017.

In a stellar 2013-2016 scholastic career for Northern HS (Owings, Md.)—All-District, All-Conference, All-County—he played mostly 3B. He played 2B in travel ball for the Maryland Monarchs and Arena Starz.

Graham said, “Jimmie sees the game on a different plane than most, like he’s looking down on the action and sees everything unfolding. There isn't anything he can’t do with a bat, ball and glove and he makes baseball look easy. He’s a pure joy to watch play the game.”

In addition to 2017 returners McGrath, Keating, Graham, and Cummings, Gentry joins Drew Ventrelle (University of Chicago, Ill.) and Joe Schipsi (Cabrini University, Pa.), who also have committed to the AAU USA International Collegiate Team. Others are considering.
