OWINGS, Maryland - The Maryland RBI advanced skills development team defeated the Southern Maryland Grizzlies 12-11 on June 29 thanks to a game-winning, walk-off RBI single to win the 2019 AAU Mid-Atlantic Wood Bat League 18+ Championship Tournament at Northern High School (MD).

The game was tied at 11 with regular season champion and top-seeded Maryland RBI batting in the bottom of the last inning with two outs when Connor Graham, Central Pennsylvania College honorable mention All-American, singled up the middle on a 1-2 count, scoring the decisive run.

The Grizzlies opened up an early lead in the second inning when Lancaster Bible College (PA) commit Mark Cullins induced Jackson to hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored.
Maryland RBI notched four runs in the second inning. University of Mary Washington club player CJ Cummings, Cullins, and Ryan Renner all drove in runs in the frame.

A five-run lead in the third inning was enough for Maryland RBI to take the lead and hold off the SMD Grizzlies early in the game. The Grizzlies scored eight runs in a comeback on a groundout by Spencer Stogdale in the fourth, a double by College of Southern Maryland commit Clayton Lambert in the fourth, a fielder's choice by Chandler Jackson in the fourth, error in the fourth, a
single by Ryan Chubb in the fourth, a single by Colton Lambert in the sixth, and error in the seventh.

Cummings earned the victory on the pitcher's mound for Maryland RBI. He allowed one hit and two runs over three innings, striking out five. Lambert took the loss for the SMD Grizzlies. He went one inning, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out two. Cullins started the game for Maryland RBI. He lasted four innings, allowing six hits and nine runs while striking out three. Ricky Crump started the game for the SMD Grizzlies. He allowed seven hits and nine runs over five innings.

Maryland RBI collected nine hits. Renner, Graham, Anne Arundel Community College (MD) commit Vincent Aurigemma, and Cummings all had multiple hits for Maryland RBI.
Maryland NCAA Division II Frostburg State University's DJ Coleman led the Grizzlies' attack with a run, RBI, walk, sacrifice fly, and four QABs.

The win marked the second championship for Maryland RBI in the past three years, after South River won the title in 2018. Maryland RBI and the Maryland AAU District's South River Seahawks and Pasadena Eagles clubs are the only programs in Maryland AAU baseball that have notched multiple championships the past 10 years. During that span, Maryland RBI has won five titles, just ahead of South River with three and Pasadena with two. Maryland RBI, with four players, was the most represented team on the 2019 Mid-Atlantic Wood Bat League's All-Star team.
